The Enterprise Identity Management (EIM) project was closed on November 1, 2023. See the EIM landing page for project accomplishments, reasons for the closure and future plans for EIM at UC San Diego.

What was behind EIM closing?

A critical deficiency was identified with performance of the open-source COmanage Registry and Match products selected for EIM. Failing our stress test, after discussions with our consultants, other adopters in higher ed and investors in the project, it was determined that COmanage would not meet the university’s needs and it would be best not to launch EIM. 

When will there be an identity management solution?

While there is not a timeline for the completion of EIM at this time, the team continues to work on identity management requirements to support campus, Health and the Student Information System project. A service roadmap outlines ongoing work on components of identity management as options for a new registry and match system are investigated.

Will any of the work completed for EIM be applied?

There has been a significant amount of work completed and much was learned through the EIM project. Many hours of subject matter expert information has been documented, and the invaluable input of end users brought to light business requirements that had not been anticipated.

System maps, software capabilities and lessons learned from system shortcomings will be applied to the next steps for identity management.Work continues on identity management as the options for a new registry and match solution are investigated.

What do I do about my identity management planning with no EIM??

The team has been working with downstream system owners on their identity management requirements and determining options for remediation. If you haven't talked with the EIM team yet, contact them at identitymanagment@ucsd.edu to document your near- and long-term identity requirements.

What will be the replacement for COmanage Registry and Match?

A replacement for COmanage Registry and Match is to be determined. The team continues to assess available options, taking into consideration the requirements of campus, Health and the upcoming Student Information System. In the meantime, work continues on the service roadmap.

Who will lead ongoing EIM efforts?

The IT Services Identity Management team will lead the creation of a service roadmap and continue work on next steps and downstream remediation as a new registry and match system is researched. Contact the team at identitymanagement@ucsd.edu with questions.
