TSS Project: Temporary Access Gap for the Major/Minor Tool (MMT)

Following the announcement regarding the shift of Fall 2026 student enrollment, now called booking, to mid-July, the Office of the Registrar is providing guidance on a temporary access gap impacting Undergraduate Students using the Major/Minor Tool (MMT).

About the Temporary Access Gap

Current system logic requires students to be enrolled in a "current" term to process changes to their major or minor. Summer Session enrollments are excluded from this logic, so the MMT automatically defaults to the upcoming Fall term after Spring quarter ends.

Due to the revised Fall 2026 booking (enrollment) timeline and the transition to the Triton Student System (TSS), a temporary access gap will occur between the end of the Spring quarter (June 5, 2026), and at least the start of Fall enrollment (mid- to late-July). During this six- to eight-week period, students will be unable to submit major or minor changes.

Impact on Students

The University recognizes this temporary access gap may affect planning cycles for students, particularly those seeking to book/enroll in major-restricted courses for the Fall 2026 term.

To help minimize disruption for students and clarify the adjusted process, a communication will be distributed to current students. Please note the following operational shifts:

  • Deadline for Current Processing: Current students should submit any planned major or minor changes by Friday, June 5, 2026. **Advisors must review and complete these by June 17th or they will expire.**
  • Students not Registered in Spring 2026: If a student is not currently registered for Spring 2026, they will not have access to the MMT and will need to wait until:
    • Fall 2026 enrollment/booking begins in TSS, and
    • The MMT becomes available in TSS, currently scheduled for mid-July.
  • Spring DDAs: If a student has an active Degree and Diploma Application for Spring 2026 and a major change is required for degree completion, an academic advisor should submit this request directly to Academic Records (academicrecords@ucsd.edu) for manual processing, following standard process.

Next Steps

To support continuity during this transition, the Office of the Registrar is preparing a direct communication for current students outlining the June 5 deadline and temporary MMT access gap. This communication will also be shared with you for transparency and awareness regarding student-facing messaging (please see student message below)

We are sharing this information with advising leadership and staff in advance to ensure your offices are aware of the temporary access gap and are equipped to support students navigating these updated timelines.

We appreciate the university community’s continued partnership as we prepare for this significant milestone and transition to the Triton Student System.

Message to current Spring 2026 Undergraduate students:

Dear Tritons,

Following recent updates about the new Triton Student System (TSS), there is an important update regarding access to the Major/Minor Tool. As part of the transition to TSS, access to update your major or minor will be temporarily unavailable between June 5, 2026 and mid-July 2026. This is a temporary change related to the transition to TSS.

If you are currently enrolled in Spring 2026, you can continue to access and make changes to your degree programs via the Major/Minor tool until Friday, June 5, 2026

Access to update your major or minor will resume in mid-July once Fall 2026 booking (enrollment) begins.

If you are planning to take a Fall Quarter course restricted to a specific major, please update your major by Friday, June 5, 2026 to avoid delays when booking (enrolling) onto courses in mid-July.
