SIS Project: What We’ve Heard (January 2025)

There's something energizing about the start of a new year. As we step into 2025, we're channeling that fresh energy into the Student Information System (SIS) Project. Through our ongoing discussions and engagement sessions, we've heard your thoughtful questions, your hopes for the future systems and your ideas about how we can make this transition smooth and successful for everyone.

This month, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on something that's been on everyone's mind: training! Our team has been busy shaping an approach that works for our whole campus community. At the heart of this effort is you — your feedback, your needs and your vision for success.

What You’ve Shared

Over the past few years, our team held various engagement sessions and discussions with many different groups, departments and units across the university. These conversations have shed light on three crucial themes regarding training.

Training That Works for You

Our community expressed curiosity about the breadth of training and its impact on day-to-day operations. You've highlighted the importance of having materials and sessions customized to different roles and responsibilities. The goal is to ensure the training prepares you to confidently carry out your tasks within the new systems and applications.

Crafting the Learning Environment

From these discussions, a clear vision for an ideal learning environment has emerged. You’ve asked for a flexible approach that works for everyone, from new team members accessing eLearning modules at their own pace to experienced staff diving into scenario-based training that mirrors their daily responsibilities. Many of you have requested a centralized resource library, complete with quick guides and detailed workflows to ensure that information is easily accessible when you need it.

Tapping into Transparency

Transparency emerged as another theme in our discussions. You've emphasized the need for a training roadmap with clear signposts along the way, such as when training will begin, how resources will be accessed and what milestones to expect. This roadmap isn't just about dates and deadlines –– it's about giving everyone the confidence to plan and prepare for this transition.

From Feedback to Action

We’ve heard you loud and clear: training needs to fit into your busy schedules, support different learning preferences and offer on-demand resources for whenever questions arise. Your input drives our training approach, and we're excited to bring your vision to life. We're crafting a comprehensive strategy to ensure everyone can engage in ways that work best for them. As we begin to develop the training, we want to reiterate our commitment to keeping your needs front of mind and making sure you’re informed every step of the way.

We believe in getting it right before going big. That's why we're partnering with groups across campus to gather insights, assess training needs and pilot our training materials. Our goal is to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure the training truly resonates with your needs.

Through careful testing, tactful refinement and continuous feedback loops, we're building a training program that will empower every member of our community to use the new systems and applications with confidence.

What’s Next

Your contributions continue to guide every step of the SIS Project. Expect to hear more about the training timeline and formats and how to prepare as we jump into training development. Thank you for your engagement and involvement as we move forward together.
